Julia Buenaventura Ph.D. proposes sixteen talks, associated with the study of Art in Latin America, a journey by artists from our continent: sculptors like the Brazilian Maria Martins or the Colombian Feliza Bursztyn, painters as the Mexican José Clemente Orozco, romantic minimalists like the Cuban (and North American) Félix González-Torres, moving through Marisol, León Ferrari, Cildo Meireles, among others.
The first video on the Brazilian Maria Martins, a sculptress of the first half of the 20th, is a journey through her career. With an impressive sculptural work, Martins burst into surrealism from the tropics (as she stated), leaving a legacy of the feminine and the unconscious. The shadow pursues her, and Martins, without hesitation, turned around to face her own shadow. Brancusi, Giacometti, and Arp appropriated Rodin's legacy, each in their own way; Martins took their legacy and developed her work from her existence and perspective.
