The 11th edition of the Naif Art Biennial was inaugurated on August 8. Curated by Brazilian art critic Kiki Mazzuchelli, the biennial is presented at the Piracicaba space of the Instituto Cultural y Educacional SESC in São Paolo, Brazil.
One of the most important referents of vanguardist art, the Naif Art Biennial promotes the integration among artists, art collectors, educators, and galleries, with the objective of widening the knowledge base as it relates to the artistic production in Brazil.
The Biennial will include the participation of 50 artists and 70 artworks selected by a jury formed by: art critic and visual arts expert Paulo Klein; gallery owner and expert of popular Brazilian art, Edna Matosinho de Pontes; visual arts coordinator of the SESC, Juliana Braga; and art critic and Portuguese art historian, Marta Mestre.
The curatorship by art critic Kiki Mazzuchelli aims for this edition the integration of the works selected by the jury with the proposals of the 10 guest artists invited for this edition of the event. The ultimate goal is to generate connections, associations, and dialogues between naïf and contemporary art; and to elicit discussions about notions of artistic categories and hierarchies.
