MOCA has hosted over 170 internationally-recognized exhibitions featuring artists of the caliber of Frank Stella and Yoko Ono. The museum has supported South Florida and emerging artists with museum premieres, and artists who have gone on to achieve international renown after early-career MOCA solo shows include Teresita Fernandez, Hernan Bas and Mark Handforth. MOCA is committed to featuring art that reflects the diversity of its community, which consists of large Haitian and Hispanic diaspora populations as well as active, exhibiting contemporary artists. Recent exhibitions PÒTOPRENS: The Urban Artists of Port-au-Prince and Monarchs: Brown and Native Artists in the Path of the Butterfly both featured compelling work by international artists with ties to the community.

The critically-acclaimed exhibition AFRICOBRA: Messages to the People was originated by MOCA and debuted during Miami Art Week in 2018. The exhibition represented a historic moment for the Chicago-based collective, celebrating its 50th anniversary. In 2019, MOCA produced AFRICOBRA: Nation Time, which was an official collateral exhibition of the Venice Biennale. MOCA is the first Florida institution ever to present at that venerable international international exposition. For these and other exhibitions, such as Alice Rahon: Poetic Invocations and Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen, the museum teams up with guest curators of the highest caliber to bring new voices and perspectives into the community. MOCA's exhibitions have been recognized by national and international press including the New York Times, Washington Post, Art in America, Los Angeles Times, Artforum, London Review of Books and Art News.
