Roger White
2020
Painting
5 x 55.9 x 61 CM
The artist suggests that the images in his paintings are components of an oblique history of the present. Through the muted palette and loose photorealism in his paintings of clear plastic food containers, which were rendered from observation, the artist considers the capacity for all objects to function as records of time. Roger White’s work investigates time, technology, as well as the labor involved in producing the PET container, in comparison to the artist’s reproduction of the object —neither of which amount to anywhere near the total lifespan of plastic objects, which can last for hundreds of years before disappearing into nature.
