Wilfredo Prieto at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia

The exhibition titled "System Error" by Wilfredo Prieto (1978, Sancti Spiritus), presented at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia (MACZUL) in the city if Maracaibo from October 2015 to April 2016, represents the first solo exhibition by the Cuban artist in Venezuela. Under the curatorship of Lourdes Peñaranda, the exhibition was presented in the context of MACZUL's innovative International Residencies Program, a project conceived by the museum as a strategic platform for cultural exchange and to encourage creation. The work developed by the young Cuban creator is characterized by an economy of discursive elements, by its poetic sublimation and conceptual gravity. The exhibition consisted of 12 sensitive proposals distributed across two levels of the exhibition room 1 of MACZUL. The development of Prieto's imagery is based on a communion that makes anything that emerges as a possibility for meaning copulate, contaminate, its opposite. Through material and conceptual processes, Wilfredo Prieto elicits a dramaturgy of contingency in which participants are moved and immersed in a staging of multiple readings that are articulated from experiences approached as manifestations of meanings. These sensitive proposals are visual metaphors that restitute the meaning of language and celebrate the potentiality of the impossible things created. The exhibition offers a perspective that articulates at certain moments the notion of "us" from the sensitive communion between doubt and strangeness that is produced by accidents, crises, and errors within the system.
