Views and Concepts, in the Helga de Alvear Collection Extremeño and Iberamericano Museum of Contemporary Art

With this title, the Extremeño and Iberamericano Museum of Contemporary Art (Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo ¿MEIAC), exhibited part of the collection which is today one of the principle private collections in Spain: Helga de Alvear. The Alvear collection has been formed throughout 30 years, and the motives for its formation are the same as those that motivated the gallerist to spread art. The collection that is today being shared with the public will be part of the Center of Visual Arts. Helga de Alvear Foundation (Centro de Artes Visuales. Fundación Helga de Alvear), whose first phase will open its doors in 2007 and is in the hands of the architects Emilio Tuñon and Luis Moreno Mansilla. Views and concepts is a continuity of the show presented in 2003, in Caceres during the Foro Sur Art Fair. In the words of the catalogue, Antonio Franco Domínguez, Director of MEIAC comments on the show that: ¿It intends (¿) to offer a general panorama of what is current in art in the present moment (¿).¿ An excellent text accompanies the show which includes an interview with Helga de Alvear, where her beginnings as a gallerist and her insertion into the World of art are shown.
