Víctor Grippo. Transformation

Open to the public from September 18 through September 22, the exhibition entitled Víctor Grippo. Transformation at the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, offers a panoramic view of the artist born in Argentina. It is a survey of work that ranges from the beginning of Grippo's artistic career in the 1970s until his death in 2002.

Rather than being presented in linear sequence, the exhibition curated by Alicia Chillida is chronologically organized based on one of the central principles that governed Grippo's artistic endeavor: transformation; that is, the transformation of science into art, matter into energy, energy into consciousness, death into life, among others.

A chemist by trade, Víctor Grippo (Junín, Province of Buenos Aires, 1936-Buenos Aires, 2002) began his work as a painter during Argentina's politically charged environment of the 1970s. Throughout his career he maintained a constant interest for the connections between art, science and everyday life. Grippo's fascination with transformation and the regenerations inherent to nature, its alchemic powers, impregnated his first sculptures and installations during the 1970s. Ethics and Aesthetic were of first importance for this artist who never contemplated separating art from life.
