Valeska Soares: Entrementes "Valeska Soares: Meanwhile"

The show titled "Valeska Soares: Meanwhile" at the Pina Estação, a space of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, is part of a series of retrospective exhibitions by artists who began their careers during the 1980s. Curated by Júlia Rebouças, the show features works that span thirty years of artistic production. Valesca Soares' artistic inquiries have focused on people and the human figure, memory and affections, as well as on the relationships between space, time, and language. The exhibition will remain open until October 22. She show consists of forty works from the Pinacoteca's collection, private collections, as well as from the artist's own collection, which includes works that have never been shown before in Brazil. Paintings, collages, objects, installations, and sculptures shape an exhibition that plays with points of encounter between the individual and society, hidden and explicit elements, the past and the future. Júlia Rebouças said about the exhibition: "Soares does not keep her work away from the public. Her works are open to the observer, leave clues about the processes involved in their production, evidence their material constitutions, are open to sensitive compromises and participation. Part of the strength of her poetic involves that which evaporates, slips, vanishes, withers, silences, yields, melts, and breaks."
