From May 2nd through May 5th of 2011, the Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá -located at the Centro Empresarial de Chapinero- will present a seminar entitled "The Art of Collecting Art." The event targets individuals and organizations whose interests are connected to art, art collecting and the art market, and who seek a better understanding of art and contemporary artists. The seminar will be held two hours daily -6:00 pm to 8:00 pm- for a total of 8:00 hours. The program will center on the following issues: Where is the beauty in Contemporary Art?, What happen with the Fine Arts today?, The Collector's Passion, Starting a Collection, and Private Collections in the Public Realm. These first points of departure -along with a theoretical -practical methodology- will be the tools required to attain the objectives outlined in the seminar. Independent art curator and critic, Paula Silva, is the lecturer in charge of the seminar. She completed a master's degree in Twentieth-Century Art History from the University of London and, among other achievements, received a mention from the Ministry of Culture and the Art Department of the Universidad de los Andes, for her essay entitled La Cicatriz como Materialización de la Memoria y el Recuedo como Monumento (Scars as the Materialization of Memory and Memories as Monuments), submitted at the 2006 National Critic Award. Silva is currently Arts and Industries Manager for the British Council in Colombia. More information available at
