Ricardo Basbaum. Diagrams

Until October 6, 2013, the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (CGAC) presents the exhibition entitled Diagrams by Ricardo Basbaum.

Diagrams is the first retrospective exhibition by the Brazilian artist in Spain and is comprised of works created from the mid-1990s.

Visitors will be able to appreciate multi-formatic pieces that represent different referents of the "self" and the "other". The works allow viewers to become co-protagonists of the work and to generate a symbiosis between them, while showing that sensorial perceptions are a key part of the work by Basbaum.

Speaking about the 2001 exhibition by Basbaum at the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo—where the artist presented works that are part of the current exhibition at the CGAC—artist Carla Zaccagnini said the following:

"… The game he proposes, namely, one in which observers are also participants, is parallel to the other game I am telling you about, in which the player (and the person that dictates the rules) is also a piece of ourselves. We are (me, you and everybody) referees, announcers, players, participants, pawns, gamblers, observant, observers, spectators, audience, points, and scores; and we play to accumulate positions."
