Under the Colombian National Stimulus Program and the Swiss Cultural Fund Program, the Ministry of Culture of Colombia and the Swiss Embassy presented on December 13, of 2011, the Colombian-Swiss National Photography Award 2011 to Colombian Artist Nicolás Van Hemelryck. The Award was presented at the Centro Cultural Biblioteca Pública Julio Mario Santo Domingo. The presentation of the award was held concurrently with the inauguration of + San Juan Sin Dios by Van Hemelryck, the exhibition that made him deserving of the award. + San Juan Sin Dios consists of a series of photographs taken in the Hospital San Juan de Dios located in the Colombian capital. A place that was closed down ten years ago, the place is today an unwelcoming crumbling space full of stories and traces to a past that included doctor offices, psychiatric wards, and operation rooms that become central characters in Van Helmeryck¿s works. The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Centro Cultural until January 10, 2011, as it will also travel to other institutions in the Bogota and Medellin.
