Mauro Giaconi: From the Depth of Time

From the month of March and until July 24 of 2016, the Galería Sur of the Museo Universitario del Chopo presents a personal exhibition by Argentine artist Mauro Giaconi (Buenos Aires, 1977) that consists of three works: an ephemeral mural that covers the walls of the exhibition space and uses elements from the architectural environment, the installation Alma (Soul), and a video titled Línea Transversal (Transversal Line). According to Giaconi, the works convey the logic of the expanded drawing and explore the interaction between perception, appearance, fragility, and violence. Alma, an installation created with recycled plastic bags that simulate rocks and allude to refuges. On the other hand, the video Línea Transversal captured actions based on an episode from the military dictatorship in Uruguay. Another component of Giaconi's work consists of historic and autobiographical references told through the Giaconi's personal memories and experiences during the dictatorship period in Uruguay. Created in situ, in the museum's storage space, the ephemeral mural recreates the notion of time. More information about the exhibition is available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuL_1PvyzXM
