María Mercedes Herrera-Buitrago has just been named head of the curatorial team at the Museo Nacional de Colombia in Bogota.
Herrera-Buitrago is professor of Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and she is also history professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where she also completed an MA in History with the distinctions of degree cum laude and Mérito Javeriano (2009). She won the Research Grant in Visual Arts granted by the Colombian Ministry of Culture (2011) with her work Momentum: Gustavo Sorzano y el Arte Conceptual en Colombia (Momentum: Gustavo Sorzano and Conceptual Art in Colombia). Herrera-Buitrago was also awarded the Historic, Theoretical, or Critical Essay on the Field of Colombian Art Award, given by Idartes, for her research Momentum: Gustavo Sorzano y el Arte Conceptual en Colombia.
Herrera-Buitrago has written several articles in academic periodicals and has also authored two books: Emergencia del Arte Conceptual en Colombia. 1968-1982 (Emergence of Conceptual Art in Colombia. 1968-1982), from 2011, and Momentum: Gustavo Sorzano y el Arte Conceptual en Colombia, from 2013.
