"Magical Realism: The Visual Universe in Latin America"

Located in the city of Zhengzhou in the Henan province -the most populated region in the world- the Shangdu Museum of Art will present until May 14, 2011, the exhibition entitled Magical Realism: The Visual Universe in Latin America. The exhibition pictorially brings back to life the idea of the literary genre from the mid-Twentieth Century, as it addresses the manipulation of reality through each one of the pieces exhibited. It consists of 60 works by Latin American artists like Colombians Fernando Botero, Efraín Zuñiga, Darío Ortiz, Alfonso Álvarez; Uruguayans Ignacio Iturria and Fabián Mowszowicz; Argentine Claudio Gallina; and Paraguayan Hernán Miranda, among others. A very well received participant in the exhibition, Botero represents a clear example of Magical Realism. His imagery is loyal to the show¿s title, as he transgresses and alters any notions of reality through his technique and use of volume in the depiction of his characters.
