Held at the Centro Cultural Borges from October 3-10, 2012, the call for participation in the First Biennial of Contemporary Art of Argentina remains open. Formed by Vito Campanella, Gregorio Luke, expert in American art and jury member at the Venice Biennale; Ponciano Cárdenas, expert on Latin American culture; and Hugo Irureta, creator of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Tilcara (northern Argentina); the jury panel will be responsible for the selection of the winning works that will also be included in an exhibition.
Candidates must submit their applications by email no later than August 15, 2012. The application must include 3 photographs of the works, each accompanied by an information label that includes the title, format and technique used, and homepage address. The application and the rest of the material must be emailed to mebeneito@gmail.com. Candidates will receive an answer by email concerning their participation in the event.
The Biennial is open to Argentinean artists and artists from around the world who reside in Argentina or who are able to participate from abroad and are able send their work during the mounting of the exhibition. The exhibition will include the following artistic disciplines: Painting, Sculpture, Engraving, Drawing, Photography, Installation, Digital Arte, Textile Art, Ceramics, and Jewelry. The show will feature the winning works as well as other pieces also selected by the jury.
Organized by María Elena Beneito—Professor and Art Critic, member of the Scientific Committee of the Florence Biennale, and Editor of the annual Arte Argentino periodical that focuses on Latin American art—the event is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture of the Republic of Argentina and several embassies that represent countries from the region.
A bilingual Spanish-English color catalog of the exhibition will be published as a vehicle to promote art at the national and Latin American level.
