El Prado receives the modern gaze of Francis Bacon

The Museo del Prado inaugurated on February 3 a retrospective by Francis Bacon that reveals the modern gaze of this British artist. In addition to documentary material from his studio, the nearly sixty works in the exhibition include 16 of Bacon¿s most important triptychs. This retrospective is one of Bacon¿s most important exhibitions organized in Madrid since his death in 1992. It includes all of the essential works by the Irish-born painter, regarded as one of the Twentieth Century¿s leading artists. The exhibit was organized with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and the Comunidad de Madrid, the Tate Britain in London, and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The exhibit by Francis Bacon will remain open until April 19, when it will travel to New York City. The Pinacoteca Nacional will be exhibiting his early paintings.
