Colombian Art

The group exhibition entitled The Marvelous Real: Colombia through the Vision of its Artists will be open until September 27, 2013. Organized by the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank, this panoramic exhibition underscores the complexities, challenges and singularities of Colombia seen through the gaze of some of its most prominent artists.

Colombia's sustained economic growth in recent years goes hand in hand with the success of its artistic production. The establishment of this image on the country originates from the known narrative of the "marvelous real."

The selection of works that are part of this exhibition has been chronologically organized according to the different periods of production of the participating artists. The visual survey begins with pre-Columbian replicas and continues with the reinvention of the Colombian territory—between the Fifteenth and the Nineteenth Centuries—going through the Twentieth Century—the 1950s with the beginning of modern art, the social transformations of the 1960s, the decentralization of art during the 1970s—and concludes with contemporary works from the end of the last Century.

Curated by Félix Ángel, the exhibition includes 36 works by 24 Colombian artists.
