Botero in Istanbul for the First Time

Residents of the city of Istanbul are enjoying the work of one of the most singular contemporary artists, Colombian Fernando Botero (Medellín, 1932). Regarded as the most sought-after living Latin American artist in the world today, Botero¿s work is being presented in Turkey for the first time. The exhibition is presented at the Pera Museum in Istanbul. This was made possible by the joint efforts of the Colombian Honorary Consulate, the Embassy of Spain, and the Instituto Cervantes in Istanbul. The exhibition includes a selection of 64 pictorial works that have been organized by theme and divided into six sections: Still Lifes, Versions, Bullfights, The Circus, Life in Latin America, and The Latin American People. From the beginning of his artistic career, Fernando Botero has offered a new take on contemporary esthetics, which has resulted in original and very personal work containing many references to his own culture and life. He approaches his work with a unique style that challenges the concept of beauty in our century, thanks to his continuous use of monumentality, humor, irony, and naivety, elements that Botero combines with great talent and remarkable dominion of his trade.
