Awards to Collectors

The Asociación Amigos de ARCO has just announced the recipients of its awards to collectors. The awards will go to: the artistic funds of the Fundación Banco Santander, in the category of Corporative Collecting; Han Nefkens (The Netherlands), in the category of International Collecting; and Victorino Rosón; in the category of Private Collecting. Recognizing the work of national and international collectors with these awards has perhaps been one of the association's main objectives for the last 25 years. The Colección Santander is managed by the Fundación Banco Santander and contains more than one million pieces created between the 16th and 20th Centuries. For his part, Barcelona-based Dutchman, Han Nefkens, has been collecting artistic treasures for the Colección H+F since 2011; including photographs, videos, installations, and paintings by artists like Pipilotti Rist, Jeff Wall, Sam Taylor-Wood, Bill Viola, Shirin Neshat, and Félix González-Torres, among others. Victorino Rosón began his art collection in the early 1990s, when he first concentrated on works by creators from Galicia, to eventually broaden the field to include other national and international artists. The award presentation will take place on February 15 of 2012, concurrently with the opening of ARCOmadrid.
