Ana Mendieta

The Castello di Rivoli museum presents, starting January 30th, She Got Love, a retrospective of the work of Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta. The exhibition, curated by Beatrice Merz and Olga Gambari, reflects Mendieta's career-long artistic evolution as a pioneer of performance, video art, body art, and land art whose fresh visual language has influenced later generations of Latin American artists.

Comprising some one hundred works using natural materials such as clay, feathers, stone, moss, blood, sand, water, and fire, the show explores Mendieta's singular language and the way she explored her preoccupations with poetry, politics, the future, life and death, violence, love, sex, or exile, themes all influenced by her Cuban roots.

The show's overall title, She Got Love, is taken from one of Mendieta's film works, where she scribbles words in blood on a white door. The exhibition was organized with the cooperation of the Mendieta estate and Galerie Lelong, and will remain open to the public through May 5th, 2013.
