Universidad de Córdoba is calling for submissions to its Biennial Award, open to contemporary visual artists regardless of nationality; the award will be given with consideration to the artist's trajectory and his or her insertion in the discourse of contemporary photography.
A single prize will be awarded, comprised of three recognitions: 15,000 Euros, a solo exhibition, and the publication of a monograph analyzing the trajectory of the winner. The prize-winning work will become part of the Universidad de Córdoba art collection. The award ceremony will be held in February, 2014.
Artists should submit a single photographic work, but diptychs, polyptychs, and other formats are admissible as long as they comply with the measurements indicated. Submissions by teams comprised of more than one artist are expressly allowed. Submitted works must be created specifically for this competition, and they must not have received any other awards. Theme and technique are open. Total format must in no instance exceed 200 x 200 centimeters.
Artists who present their work in the definitive format must do so in reusable packaging for its return, allowing for easy opening and closing. Submissions must be properly labeled in the outside of the mailing package. Works not properly packaged will not be admitted. The organization will label the works on the back with removable labels; for this reason, artists who want to avoid such labeling on the original paper must present their work or proofs protected under film or other transparent cover that allows visibility.
The jury will select ten works from among all submitted, and from these selections an Award winner will be chosen with attention to its quality, the author's trajectory, and its insertion in the discourse of contemporary photography. The jury's decision cannot be appealed, and the prize can be declared vacant.
The names of the artists selected will be published in the Web page www.premiopilarcitoler.es, the week after the decision is made. The award will be presented in February of 2014.
The deadline for submissions runs between October 1st and 20th, 2013. For questions or clarifications, please contact premiopilarcitoler@uco.es
