Ukrainian curator and scholar Vasyl Cherepanyn has been appointed curator of the 14th Berlin Biennale, which will take place in the summer of 2027. Cherepanyn, with an interdisciplinary approach combining art, political philosophy, and social movements, has primarily worked within the context of Eastern Europe and its transformation following the fall of the Soviet bloc.
The curator emphasized that his vision for the Biennale will focus on exploring the relationship between art and contemporary social and political contexts, especially in light of current challenges such as the war in Ukraine.
Cherepanyn’s selection was made by an international committee of art and culture experts, who valued his ability to connect art with pressing social and contemporary issues.
Cherepanyn, co-founder of the Visual Culture Research Center (VCRC) and a member of the curatorial team for the Kyiv Biennale, is known for his work on projects that link art with political action and social struggles. The 14th edition of the Biennale promises to be a space for reflection on the challenges of the present, while also broadening the dialogue between contemporary art and its global context.
