The Sequences Biennial has announced that curators Raphael Fonseca and Yina Jiménez Suriel will serve as the artistic directors of its 13th edition, scheduled to take place in Reykjavík, Iceland, from October 1 to 10, 2027.
Their appointment follows an international open call that attracted more than 70 applications. After a selection process, the festival’s board chose the proposal developed by Fonseca and Jiménez Suriel, who will shape the conceptual direction of the event.
Fonseca, a Brazilian curator based in the United States, and Jiménez Suriel, a Dominican curator and researcher, both bring extensive experience from international biennials, exhibitions, and curatorial projects.
Festival organizers highlighted that their global perspective is expected to strengthen dialogue between the local art scene and broader international contexts. Further details, including the theme and participating artists, will be announced gradually over the next two years.
