Under the name Inter-Reality, a project by Chilean artist Norton Maza, curated by Dermis León and Marisa Caichiolo, and managed by Claudia Pertuzé, was selected through a public call by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage to represent Chile at the Venice Biennale of Art in 2026. The proposal was chosen through a public call, highlighting its strong curatorial foundation, artistic excellence, and technical feasibility for Chilean representation.
"Participating in the Venice Biennale is of utmost importance, as it places Chile in the world's largest showcase of contemporary art. Norton Maza's Inter-Reality proposal stands out for its ability to foster critical reflection on national artistic creation, establishing a poetic dialogue between our local reality and universal themes such as ecology and geopolitics," stated the Minister of Cultures, Carolina Arredondo.
The proposal offers an immersive journey that activates all the senses. This is achieved through a key sound dimension in which helicopter and airplane sounds intertwine with ancestral chants and recordings of nature collected throughout Chile, sourced from a sound archive. The ultimate goal is for visitors to leave with a poetic and sensory experience that connects the intimate with the political, the local with the global, inviting them to "spy" and discover what is not immediately visible.
