MUAC Presents Networks and Collectivities in Mexico, 1976–1985
The University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) presents the exhibition Networks and Collectivities in Mexico, 1976–1985, on view from February 7 to August 30, 2026. The curatorial project is led by Mónica Amieva, Pilar García, Julio García Murillo, Jaime González Solís, and Daniel Montero. The exhibition revisits a key moment in the development of contemporary art in Mexico through the lens of artistic collectives formed during the 1970s and 1980s.
The exhibition focuses on the emergence and evolution of so-called artistic groups beginning in the mid-1970s, within a context shaped by state repression and profound transformations in artistic languages. Through artworks and archival materials, it examines how these collectives developed practices of experimentation, public-space intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The exhibition brings together graphic materials, audiovisual records, installations, publications, and archival documents that reflect artistic production closely linked to political militancy, cultural action, and institutional critique.
Organized into five thematic sections—Latin America in Dispute; Fronts and Movements; Irreverence and Subversion; The Institutionalization of Groups; and Collectivities in Drift—the exhibition highlights encounters, actions, and works that demonstrate the power of collective practice in moments of crisis and social transformation.
